How it works

From input to output,
in a few clicks.

Check an SVG before adding it to a website, storefront, or design system. The validator separates structural and security errors from browser and Shopify compatibility warnings, with specific messages for each issue.

  1. Provide your SVGUpload an .svg file or paste its source into the markup editor.
  2. Run the checksSelect Validate SVG to inspect XML structure, IDs, references, dimensions, resources, and active content.
  3. Review the reportRead errors and warnings separately, check the validity summary, and inspect the safely rendered image preview.

Frequently asked questions

What makes an SVG invalid in this report?

XML parsing failures, a missing SVG root or namespace, duplicate IDs, broken local references, malformed dimensions, and active content such as scripts or event handlers are reported as errors. Compatibility concerns are listed separately as warnings.

Why does the validator warn about SMIL and foreignObject?

SMIL animation support varies by embedding context, and foreignObject depends on HTML rendering inside SVG. Website builders and commerce platforms such as Shopify may sanitize or reject these features even when a desktop browser can display them.

Can the preview execute a script in my SVG?

The preview uses an image loaded from a local Blob URL rather than inserting SVG markup into the page. The report also flags script elements, event attributes, and JavaScript URLs so you can remove them before use.
